A famed resort of the 1960’s, El San Juan went through a $60 Million renovation that modernized and enhanced the guest experience while respecting the property’s historical design. In the public areas, contemporary furnishings in neutral tones and discreet light fixtures frame the original décor. The guestrooms and suits are contrastingly lighter and are designed to be an extension of the surrounding beach and sea.

Jeffrey Beers’ warm, understated interiors complement Rafael Viñoly’s architecture with a refined palette of natural materials—including white oak floors and kitchen cabinets, Italian marble counters, and custom-designed walnut vanities—all exactingly detailed. As Beers himself suggests, the design “brings out the best of the architecture and makes the interiors a softer version of the building’s simplicity and elegance.”

Cruise Ship Design: Veterans or Virgins?

At this year’s Sea Trade Global in Miami (April 8-11), our very own Senior Designer Ayesha Khan will be moderating a panel on cruise ship design called, ‘Cruise Ship Design: Veterans or Virgins?’ The panel discussion will answer such questions as: What are the pluses and challenges of working with cruise ship design novices versus cruise ship design veterans? Does the prestige of having a renowned design name outweigh the virtues of having a designer well versed in the multifaceted particularities of shipbuilding? How do those who are unfamiliar with maritime design feel about the steep learning curve? And what is the client’s perspective? The panel will take place on that Wednesday at 10:30AM at the Cruising Innovations Theater.

Massive Food & Entertainment Skyscraper Coming to FiDi

New York Post reports that a new food-and-entertainment venue is coming to 28 Liberty Street.Legends Hospitality, which runs everything from the Yankee Stadium food concession to the One World Trade Center Observatory, has been tapped to operate a 35,000 square-foot food-and-live music complex on 28 Liberty’s ground floor. The as-yet-unnamed venue, to be designed by famed architect Jeffrey Beers, will incorporate the property’s historic Noguchi rock garden.

JBI Reveals EchelonSeaport

Interior Design Online takes an early look at the interiors of Boston EchelonSeaport, which is slated to be completed by next year. The complex will consist of three towers, anchored by a central courtyard, that encompass a whole city block in the Seaport District. JBI will shape over 60,000 square feet of amenity spaces, including lobbies and lounge areas, indoor fitness areas, and a sky lounge in each tower. The design channels Boston’s timeless American style and Beers’ experience in the luxury hospitality industry. Other members of the architectural team include Kohn Pedersen Fox and local firm CBT Architects, who collaborated on the exterior.



JBI Designs Glass Tile Collection for AKDO

​JBI is excited to announce the launch of our collaboration with AKDO. The Immersion Collection of glass tiles and mosaics was designed by world-class architect, Jeffrey Beers, for AKDO. Influenced by Jeffrey’s passion for glass as an art form, the notion for the collection occurred organically and is centered around water, which is the element most reminiscent of glass and its purity.



Sequoia Shortlisted for FX Design Awards

Sequoia Restaurant has been shortlisted for Best Global Project by FX’s International Interior Design Awards. The entries are judged by a panel of more than 20 judges from all disciplines, based on their authority, integrity and experience. The panel of distinguished experts are the very best from the design industry, including designers, architects, engineers and clients. The Awards ceremony will be held in London at the Grosvenor Hotel on November 28th.
